Nevada
N
evada adopted standards in three subjects last year, and, according to the American Federation of Teachers, the state did a pretty good job. Nevada also took a bold step in implementing its new accountability system: assigning all of its schools to one of three achievement categories. The 23 schools identified as "inadequately achieving" have been given extra money to adopt whole-school reforms. Those schools could face state intervention as early as next fall.
* NOTE: The equity grade is based on 1994-95 data, the most recent available.
