L ouisiana soon will have one of the nation's most comprehensive accountability systems, including ratings and consequences for schools, exit tests for students to graduate from high school, and monetary rewards for successful schools. Last year, the state also released teachers' guides to its standards that the American Federation of Teachers said helped specify what students should know and be able to do in mathematics.

    * NOTE: The equity grade is based on 1994-95 data, the most recent available.
